O projeto Arvoreteca surgiu em 2016 com a pretensão de desenvolver um acesso à leitura diferenciado. Tendo como ideia principal pendurar livros nas árvores para que as pessoas que passarem pela Praça “colhessem” livros gratuitamente para ler. Foi escolhida a Praça Tamandaré por localizar-se em uma área central da cidade do Rio Grande (Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil) e pelo grande fluxo de pessoas que passam por ela diariamente.
O objetivo do projeto é incentivar a leitura, entendendo leitura “como um conjunto de práticas codificadas, que histórica e socialmente estão envolvidas, […]”, (Lucas, 2000, p.36). Ou seja, desta maneira incentivar o ato de ler e propagar o acesso a cultura. Trazendo desse jeito um outro tipo de biblioteca, não só a biblioteca física, ou seja, dentro de quatro paredes e estantes, mas sim um novo olhar de conceito de biblioteca.
De acordo com Barros (2002, p.83), uma biblioteca pública, […] pode ser vista como uma prestadora de serviços a escola, a educação e a cultura na sociedade, por isso sua existência e papel social torna-se imprescindível para a formação do cidadão. Por isso buscamos desenvolver um tipo de biblioteca que desenvolva um senso cultural para toda a comunidade, de maneira a não excluir, mas sim incluindo a todos, sem distinção. Integrando pessoas, aproximando-as aos livros.
Este projeto justifica-se pela importância do ato de ler e pela relevância social para toda comunidade em geral. Facilitando desta forma o acesso à leitura, contribuindo culturalmente com a realização da biblioteca alternativa. Através da leitura o ser humano consegue se transportar para o desconhecido, explorá-lo, decifrar os sentimentos e emoções que o cercam e acrescentar vida ao sabor da existência. Pode então, vivenciar experiências que propiciem e solidifiquem os conhecimentos significativos de seu processo de aprendizagem.
O projeto ajuda os indivíduos a adquirir o gosto pela leitura, assim como contribui para formação do leitor que não tem condições de adquirir livros, visto que cada indivíduo pode ‘colher’ até 2 exemplares por edição do projeto.
Objetivos do Projeto Arvoreteca:
- Proporcionar o acesso à leitura, através de uma forma de biblioteca alternativa;
- Levar a leitura ao encontro do leitor;
- Motivar, pela criatividade, a leitura em bibliotecas e/ou espaços alternativos;
- Estimular o desejo de novas leituras;
- Proporcionar ao indivíduo através da leitura, a oportunidade de alargamento dos horizontes pessoais e culturais, garantindo a sua formação crítica e emancipadora;
- Distribuir livros gratuitamente para comunidade riograndina.

TreeLibrary: promotion of reading
The Arvoreteca Project (something like “TreeLibrary” or “Book Tree”) began in 2016 with the aim of developing a special and innovative way to provide access to reading. Its main idea was to literally “hang” books in trees so that people passing through the Square could “harvest” books for free to read. “Tamandaré” Square was chosen because it is located in a central area Rio Grande city (Rio Grande do Sul state, southern region of Brazil) and because the high flow of people who pass through it daily.
The project goal is to encourage reading, considering reading “as a set of codified practices, which are historically and socially involved,” (Lucas, 2000, p.36). That is, in this way encourage the act of reading and propagating access to culture. This brings to people another kind of “library”, not only the physical library inside four walls and shelves, but a new concept, a new look of a library.
According to Barros (2002, p. 83), a public library […] can be seen as a service provider to schools, to education and to culture in society, so its existence and social role becomes indispensable for citizen growth. “That is why we seek to develop a kind of library that develops a cultural sense for the whole community, to avoid exclusion and promote inclusion of all, without distinction. Integrate people, bringing them closer to books”.
This project is justified by the importance of reading and social relevance for the whole community in general. By making access to reading easier, culturally contributing to build an alternative library. Through reading, the human being is able to be transported into the unknown, to explore it, to decipher the feelings and emotions that surround it and to add life to the taste of existence. He/her can, thus, face experiences that propitiate and solidify the significant knowledge of your learning process.
The project helps individuals acquire a taste/desire for reading, as well as contributing to the process of development readers, especially those whom can not obtain books, considering that each one can ‘harvest’ up to 2 copies per project edition.
Objectives of the Arvoreteca Project:
- Provide access to reading, through an alternative library way;
- Take reading into the reader;
- Motivate, through creativity, reading in libraries and / or alternative spaces;
- Stimulate the desire for new readings;
- To provide the individual, through reading, opportunities to broaden personal and cultural horizons, guaranteeing their critical and emancipatory formation;
- Distribute books free of charge to the community of Rio Grande city (Brazil).
